Fit Your Ride

At only 5'5, I'll never be a runway model (as if that is the only thing holding me back). My diminutive stature has also been a challenge as a rider. So when I heard about the Fit Shop at Destination Daytona, I wanted to check it out.
Mandy Rossmeyer Campbell demonstrated the range of features at the full-service Fit Shop, one of the few full-service stations at a Harley-Davidson dealership. I climbed aboard the bike mounted in a fixed position at the center of the Fit Shop and Mandy and I talked about the five signs riders should pay attention to in determining if they need to "get fit."
1. Back hurts. Discomfort in the lower back can be a sign that your seat, foot position or handlebar (or a combination) needs to be adjusted.
2. Worn out hands. A grip diameter that doesn't match the size of your hands will wear you out faster and interfere with reaching the controls.
3. On your toes. Not having your feet planted completely and firmly at a stop poses a safety risk and can reduce confidence in the saddle.
4. Knees are high. A cramped riding position can reduce your riding time. Try stretching out by moving your foot position forward and test "drive" seats that bring you forward or back.
5. Reaching too far. Stretching too far to reach the handlebars can be a pain in the neck, or shoulders, arms or back.
These are all problems that can be solved with an adjustment of your bike in the Fit Shop. You'll feel the difference with changes such as rear or front suspension, seats, foot controls and handle bars.

The Destination Daytona Fit Shop is available to anyone, whether you want to make adjustments to your current HD or if you're looking to purchase a new bike. You can also choose from a giant selection of motorcycle accessories to make your bike "fit" your personality while at Destination Daytona as well.
